Hi on Maiden and Bedlam @ the Ritz

bedlam ritz penzanceBedlam is the name for regular music events starting in the darkest, dampest corner of Cornwall and travelling to other venues. We will be taking the best bands we come across with us, with the aim of showing everyone the quality of Cornish Rock and Metal music.

The first event will take place at the Ritz in Penzance on Saturday 18th June 2011 and will feature some fantastic bands including Broken, Ex Inferis, Beryllium, Kaideka and Devils Creek with the amazing Hi-on Maiden headlining plus a rock and metal DJ, dancers, drinks specials and a fantastic atmosphere . The event will be open to age 16+ as we are well aware that there are plenty of amazing young musicians and music fans out there who usually get left out.

Levow an Bys

play theatre golowanPenwith College in association with the Penzance Proms, are putting on four concerts to showcase the excellent Zennor Building concert venue, located on the campus and to promote the Penzance Proms, which is taking place this October 19th through to the 30th. 

The third concert in the series is Levow An Bys – Cornish for ‘World Voices’, Levow An Bys were one of the Penzance Proms most successful acts in the 2010 season. Musical director Pip Wright leads this unique choir made up of friends and people from the local community. They will be performing a wide range of music for all tastes and will feature local musicians.

Bryony at Penzance Folk Club

Penzance Folk Club meets on alternate Wednesdays at the Admiral Benbow in Chapel Street. For the Golowan festival the club has been fortunate to book Bryony; an exciting and experienced trio of female harmony singers originally from York, who accompany their songs with dulcimers, harp and recorders!

 St Ives based Alistair Brown will also entertain with songs from his enormous and varied repertoire, adding concertina accompaniment to some.

Outside Edge - comedy by Richard Harris

Tension sizzles and tempers fray between various warring couples one Sunday afternoon during the summer as a small local cricket team meet the daunting all-conquering cricketing opponents that are the British Railways Maintenance Division Yeading East Cricket XI in Richard Harris’s popular comedy "Outside Edge" comes to the Minack Theatre.

Passion and fury, laughter and lament, jealousy and remorse contrast strongly as the talented Global Productions present ball by ball coverage of marital strife on the cliff edge this summer.

Global Productions won a pavilion full of awards when they toured this production in Essex, Herts and East London recently.

Sue Aston and John Thomson

sue aston performance 2011Penwith College in association with the Penzance Proms, are putting on four concerts to showcase the excellent Zennor Building concert venue, located on the campus and to promote the Penzance Proms, which is taking place this October 19th through to the 30th. 

Sue Aston and John Thomson perform a range of classical music and some of Sue’s original compositions. Sue is rapidly making a name for herself as a composer and violinist and is frequently featured on Classic FM. Her latest album ‘Between Worlds’ is receiving excellent reviews internationally. John Thomson is a concert pianist who Purcell Rooms debut after studying at the Royal Academy of Music, loves playing with Sue. “It’s like a breath of fresh air” says John.
